The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage was 7.24% as of 29 October 2026, down from 7.32% a week earlier, Freddie Mac's Primary Mortgage Market Survey shows. A year ago it averaged 6.17%.
Freddie Mac says the rate declined again this week, "reaching its lowest level this month and modestly boosting purchasing power for prospective buyers".
The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.60%, down from 6.68% a week earlier. A year ago it averaged 5.41%.
The survey is built from the rates on thousands of loan applications that lenders submit to Freddie Mac through its Loan Product Advisor. Each Thursday's figure averages the rates offered from the prior Thursday through Wednesday, Freddie Mac says, and the borrower it describes has good or excellent credit, a 20% down payment and is buying a one-unit single-family home to live in.
The lenders in the survey are a mix of credit unions, commercial banks and mortgage lending companies, and the loans are conventional, within the conforming limits FHFA sets.
Last week's 7.32% is the rate behind Redfin's latest weekly median monthly mortgage payment of $2,786, which Redfin reported on 29 October as up 10.7% on a year.
